OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT KANI
Animals:
There are no wild animals beside geckos and birds. You might surprise
a sunbathing lizard, but it will raise its tail and run away as
you approach.
Coral: Coral reefs
take a long time to grow and are one of the priceless riches of
the Maldives. Guests are asked to avoid touching or breaking
corals. By law it is prohibited to collect living or dead corals
and shells. The sale of products made with turtle shell is also
banned.
Dress: Wear what
you like at Kani as long as it is comfortable and not likely to
cause offence. On visits to village islands or Male’, make sure
the shoulders are covered and do not wear brief shorts. The sun
is so powerful, it is better to cover up if staying out for a long
time. Nudism and topless sunbathing is prohibited in Maldives.
Sun: The sun’s
rays are very strong in the Maldives, even when you don’t see or
feel them. Be especially careful when working on that tan and use
sun lotions of a high factor.
Time: We keep to
our own time in Kani, to give you more daylight. Kani time is one
hour ahead of that of Male’.
