Coral: Coral reefs take a long time to grow and are one of the priceless
riches of the Maldives. Guests are asked to avoid touching or breaking corals.
By law it is prohibited to collect living or dead corals and shells. The sale
of products made with turtle shell is also banned.
Dress: Wear what you like at Kani as long as it is comfortable and not
likely to cause offence. On visits to village islands or Male’, make sure
the shoulders are covered and do not wear brief shorts. The sun is so powerful,
it is better to cover up if staying out for a long time. Nudism and topless
sunbathing is prohibited in Maldives.
Sun: The sun’s rays are very strong in the Maldives, even when you
don’t see or feel them. Be especially careful when working on that tan and
use sun lotions of a high factor.
Time: We keep to our own time in Kani, to give you more daylight. Kani
time is one hour ahead of that of Male’.

Tax: The only tax visitors need to worry about is the $10 departure
tax payable before you check in at the airport.
Telephone: International telephone calls can be made from reception.
Television: Kani has a private television lounge with satellite television
and video.
Transfer: Transfers from and to the airport are arranged to suit flight
times.
Village Island: Next to Kani is a village island ‘Hura’ which is worth
an afternoon trip to shop or stroll around.
Water: Fresh water is made by Kani’s own desalination plant, and hot
water is produced by solar energy. OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT KANI
Animals: There are no wild animals beside geckos and birds. You might
surprise a sunbathing lizard, but it will raise its tail and run away as you
approach.

Gifts: A souvenir shop offers an amazing range of colourful and memorable
souvenirs as well as daily necessities.
Laundry: A laundry bag is provided in your room. It will be picked
up by the room boy and the laundered clothes will be returned within 48 hours.
There is no dry cleaning service available at Kani.
Library: There is a selection of magazines and books in many languages
at the Reception pavilion.
Safe Deposit: Safe deposit boxes are available free of charge at the
cashier’s counter.
Shopping: Kani’s shop sells a variety of souvenirs and basic necessities.
There are shops in the village islands, which sell souvenirs too. The shops
in Male’ carry an amazing variety of imported items. There is an arcade of
duty-free shops selling alcohol, perfumes, electronics, watches, cameras and
fine clothes at the airport.
Service Directory
Boat Hire: Various local motor vessels (dhonis) and speedboats are
available for charter for special trips.
Credit Cards: American Express, JCB, Visa and Mastercards are accepted.
Doctor: Kani has a house doctor in residence.
Electricity: Generated by Kani’s own power plant with a voltage of
230/240 volts and both 115V and 230V for electric razors in the bathrooms.
Plug adapters are available at the reception. (Guests help conserve energy
by switching off unwanted lights and appliances).
Excursions: Organised excursions take place regularly to village islands
or Male’. Join a group excursion or arrange a private trip for island hopping,
Male’ shopping or visit a local village.
Fishing: Sunset fishing is a weekly option and big game fishing can
be arranged on request. Gems & Jewellery: There is a shop with gems and jewellery
from Sri Lanka for that special gift.
Airport Service
As you leave the customs hall at the airport, a resort representative will be at the Kanifinolhu welcome desk to greet you and escort you to the speed boat or dhoni (local motor vessel) for the short cruise to the island. The representative will be on hand to help when you leave, too, and show you where to pay the US$10 departure tax. A special tip: try to get a window seat on the aircraft so you can see the wonderful world of the Maldives from the air.ives is land.
